Performance

VOLUMES | Kunsthalle Zurich | Zurich (group exhibition)

The artists collected novels from public book shelves and thrift stores. During the performance they take the books from a stack that is arranged between them, read a sentence and put the book aside. Each sentence is intended to correspond to the preceeding one so that a story emerges from all the combined texts. A live transcript is shown behind them, giving the viewers the chance to follow the story. After the performance the books were displayed in the exhibition space and could be taken away by the visitors. Each books carries a number and a seal. The used sentence is highlighted.

Recover, 2018

International Summer Academy of Fine Arts and Media, Venice
The piece Recover was performed at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts and Media in Venice.
Participants of the summer school were invited to deal with the topic "Lviv, View from Inside - View from Outside". Reading about the Ukrainian city Lviv it turned out to have a very complex and problematic history. Dark chapters are obscured and covered still today and the city needs to deal with its history in order to recover.

I found myself in Venice in a class of international people dealing with the history of a city I had not heard before. Investigating the topic, talking to the other participants I found that one way to approach this complex topic is in an abstract way in order to not deliver something superficial.

In our studio at the Palazzo Zenobio in Venice - a historic place - I made a simple intervention which deals with the subjects of covering, hiding and reconstructing.

The word Recover has several meanings; recover as to get well again or recuperate, to recover as to cover something again, but also to recover as regaining possession of something.
