Die Performenden sammeln 100 Romane aus öffentlichen Bücherregalen und Secondhand-Läden. Während der Performance nehmen sie die Bücher von einem gemeinsamen Stapel zwischen ihnen, lesen einen Satz und legen das Buch beiseite. Jeder Satz soll auf den vorhergehenden eingehen, so dass aus allen kombinierten Sätze eine Geschichte entsteht. Hinter ihnen wird ein Live-Transkript gezeigt, damit die Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauer der Geschichte folgen können. Nach der Performance werden die Bücher im Ausstellungsraum ausgestellt und konnten von den Besuchern mitgenommen werden. Sie sind jeweils nummeriert und mit einem Stempel versehen. Der vorgelesene Satz ist unterstrichen.

The artists collected novels from public book shelves and thrift stores. During the performance they take the books from a stack that is arranged between them, read a sentence and put the book aside. Each sentence is intended to correspond to the preceeding one so that a story emerges from all the combined texts. A live transcript is shown behind them, giving the viewers the chance to follow the story. After the performance the books were displayed in the exhibition space and could be taken away by the visitors. Each books carries a number and a seal. The used sentence is highlighted.

Es ist nicht möglich, sich in einem Videoanruf direkt in die Augen zu schauen. Bei den meisten Geräten befindet sich die Kamera oberhalb des Bildschirms, und da die Personen bei einem Anruf normalerweise auf ihren Bildschirm schauen, scheinen sie leicht nach unten zu blicken. In der Performance Reihe looking at each other, untersuchen Fiona Könz & Gregor Vogel Situationen in einem Videoanruf, die dem Gefühl eines direkten Augenkontakts nahe kommen.
Looking at each other for five minutes ist eine öffentliche Performance und Teil des ACT-Festivals 2020. Die Teilnehmenden erhielten einen Zoom-Link und wurden angewiesen, fünf Minuten lang direkt in die Kamera ihres Gerätes zu schauen (nicht auf den Bildschirm). Da jede Person in direkt seine Kamera schaut, kann niemand die anderen Teilnehmer sehen. Bei dem aufgezeichneten Videoanruf scheint es jedoch so, als sähen sich alle Teilnehmenden an.
Looking at each other for an hour ist eine Performance Serie, in der sich die beiden Performenden Fiona Könz & Gregor Vogel gegenseitig versuchen in einem Videoanruf anzuschauen. Sie besteht aus vier Teilen, die jeweils Möglichkeiten von Augenkontakt untersuchen (siehe unten).
Wenn A und B beide in die Kamera schauen, können sie einander nicht sehen,
aber auf dem Bildschirm scheinen sie direkten Augenkontakt zu haben.
Wenn A in die Kamera und B auf den Bildschirm schaut, sieht A B nicht,
B hat jedoch das Gefühl, Augenkontakt mit A zu haben.
Wenn B in die Kamera schaut und A auf den Bildschirm schaut, sieht B A nicht,
A hat jedoch das Gefühl, Augenkontakt mit B zu haben.
Wenn A und B beide auf den Bildschirm blicken, sehen sie sich gegenseitig leicht nach unten blicken.

It is not possible to make direct eye contact through a video call. For most devices the camera is located above the screen and since people usually look at their screen in a call, they appear to be looking slightly down. In the performance series looking at each other the artists investigate set-ups in a video call that come close to the feeling of direct eye contact.
Looking at each other for five minutes is a public performance and was part of the ACT Festival 2020. Participants were sent a zoom link and instructed to look straight into the camera of their device for five minutes. As everyone is looking at their camera, no-one is able to see the other participants. However, on the recorded video call all participants seem to look at each other directly.
Looking at each other for an hour was performed by the two artists without a public. It consists of four parts, each with a specific setup investigating different possibilities (illustrated below).
If A and B both look at the camera, they can’t see each other,
but on the screen they seem to have direct eye contact.
If A looks at the camera and B at the screen, A does not see B,
however B gets the feeling of having eye contact with A.
If B looks at the camera and A at the screen, B does not see A,
however A gets the feeling of having eye contact with B.
If A and B both look at the screen, they see each other looking slightly down.
